Forget Alberta, hello Sydney!
Apparently Kodi Smit-McPhee, the Australian eleven-year-old scheduled to play young Logan in X-men Origins: Wolverine, has been replaced by yet another Australian named Troye Mellet, a thirteen-year-old singer with no real prior acting experience (unlike Smit-McPhee) and evidently “the voice of an angel.” Ironic, then, that he’ll be portraying a younger version of the ol’ kanucklehead—Weapon X, killing machine. Slice ‘n dice, angel boy.
Smit-McPhee (left) had to back out due to scheduling conflicts with his role in The Road, a movie with Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortenson (nice).
I don’t get, though, why there is such a trend in casting Australian actors for the part of Logan/Wolverine. Jackman, Smit-McPhee, Mellet … they’re all Australian. Okay, I can understand about Hugh Jackman, because he was the first, but the others? Honestly. Wolverine is Canadian. He’s from Alberta, not Sydney. Ugh. Fine, I understand if the locations they’re shooting might make it more convenient to find someone in that general vicinity for the sake of simplicity, but they’re not just filming in Australia, they’re filming in New Zealand, too. Gah!
There are also a ton of new on-the-set pictures of the cast members, primarily Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrieber (Sabretooth), available online in places like this, where Jackman can be seen eating an apple with some surgeons (Weapon X related, maybe?), and also here, where you can see Sabretooth’s pretty nails. Who knew Weapon X members had apple fetishes? Huh. That and a love of freshly mutilated corpses, I guess.
Also, new set photos have been uploaded (hurray!).
You can also view “spy” footage of the set at Superherohype.com.
And now for some The Dark Knight news that really sucks. The new trailer (featuring Batman and the much anticipated Harvey Dent/Two-Face) that was rumored to be shown with the release of 10,000 B.C. in theaters tomorrow has been pushed back. So if you’re like me and wanted to go see 10,000 B.C. just for the TDK trailer, hold off on buying that ticket:
Warners only has two other major releases before Knight’s debut – May 9th’s “Speed Racer” and June 20th’s “Get Smart” leaving many to speculate that a second teaser may be scrapped altogether in favor of a full trailer on ‘Speed’, or be released unattached later this month.
Damn. I really wanted to see what Two-Face looks like. Also, if you’re interested, remember to check out the I Believe In Harvey Dent viral website daily for any updates and to sign up to help change Gotham.
