Reality bites, Batman

12Jun08

I Believe in Harvey Dent! That’s why I voted for him. 😛 A couple days ago I received an email entitled “Only Days Away” about the Gotham elections.

It’s been an incredible last few weeks. Ever since the vicious smear campaign collapsed and Harvey Dent’s remarkable courage at the hostage crisis at Rossi’s Deli, our campaign has ridden a wave of support I have never seen in all my political life.

Our Headquarters reopened and thousands of volunteers show up here every day, every night, fighting for change. Fundraising has reached incredible heights, with over 100,000 Gotham citizens contributing their hard-earned money in support of Harvey Dent’s vow to take back Gotham.

We’ve expanded our reach, opening branches in neighborhoods that haven’t seen political campaigns take them seriously for decades. And we’ve harnessed the incredible grassroots support by sending volunteers to knock on doors throughout the city. Amazingly, we will achieve our two millionth door knock sometime in between now and Election Day.

Harvey Dent has committed himself to lead the charge to take back our city, face down the criminal and corrupt and restore hope for our future.

Now, we need your help. We need to get out the vote!. And we need you to vote yourself. If you can’t make it to the polls, go to www.gothamelectionboard.com and find out how you can vote online. Working together, we will take back Gotham!

Today is the last day to vote—and don’t worry, you can still register. It was actually pretty amusing, as you get to vote for propositions, too.

In the comics, before Harvey flipped shit and became the infamous villain Two-Face he was one of Batman’s strongest supporters and allies and one of Bruce Wayne’s closest friends. Because of the love triangle between him, Rachel, and Bruce in The Dark Knight, I’m not sure how well he and Bruce are going to get along—and the trailer doesn’t exactly give the impression that Bruce is a big fan of the District Attorney hopeful. Still, judging by the viral campaign site for the Dentinator, Harvey is still going to side with Batman (well, they do team up a la Batman Annual #14, after all).

Batman is a symptom of a deeper problem in this city. We don’t feel safe, we don’t feel that the cops are protecting us, and we are all susceptible to either despair, fear, or anger because of it. While I can’t condone extralegal behavior, I understand why citizens have rallied behind Batman and see him as some type of hero. I believe, however, that the city would be better off when police make our city safe and not one caped man.

In other words, “The guy’s a little off his rocker, but there are more important things we should be focusing on … like psychotic clowns with machine guns.” Hey, what’s wrong with a guy who prioritizes?

Speaking of clowns, something’s going down this Friday. According to Superhero Hype!, fans with TDK Verizon cell phones were sent two text messages from Humanresources@whysoserious.com:

Clowns, are you ready for some laughs? (y/n)

You put a smile on my face. Hope you’re not superstitious.

Wait, “pillowfights”? … That should be two words.

Hm, I wonder if there’s a connection between that and the Gotham Cable News website, which is launching its show “Gotham Tonight” with Mike Engel (Anthony Michael Hall) the same day.

Moving on. Holy shit, I so want a PS3 just for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe! I mean, just look at these pictures of the Batcave and a Gotham rooftop.

That’s just kick ass.

These are hilarious … Yup, reality sucks, doesn’t it? Seriously, you have to wonder if these things ever happen in Gotham.

Today’s weather: Smoggy with a slight chance of falling superheroes.

This is why the Batmobile has a security system, folks.

“On the laptop screen the title ‘Breaking News: Hero On The City Sky’ along with a picture of Batman. This is what happens when you’re too famous for your own good.”

  1. Whenever I think batman, I can’t help but feel a little bit sad about Heath Ledger :-(. RIP.

  2. I know! And I’m sure we’ll miss him even more after TDK comes out. It’s a shame we won’t see him in the third Nolan film, it looks like he did a brilliant job.
