Meet the new Jack Bauer

So what do you think of 24 (episodes 1-5)? I’m definitely happy with what I’ve seen so far, but what about you? Sound off in the comments, and check out some of my own thoughts after the jump. WARNING: spoilers!

24 without CTU—who ever thought it would happen? I was a little worried pre-premiere about season seven. We’ve gone, what, two years without 24 due to the writers’ strike? The trailer to the new season was released a good while ago, and I was completely psyched and confident about the return of Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard)—despite the obvious deus ex machina—until I found out the writers apparently needed more time to work out plot kinks. Why the hell would they need more time?! NOT a good sign.

Well, whatever seemed to be the problem must be fixed now. Although I was really disappointed in 24: Redemption, I’m completely on board with season seven. It took an episode or so to warm up, but now it’s just on fire. I love the idea of a rogue Jack and an undercover operation comprised of ex-CTU agents determined to eliminate corruption within the government. Without a doubt, this is the most difficult challenge Jack Bauer has ever faced. There’s no actual CTU to lean on, and he certainly can’t turn to the FBI now; already facing criminal charges, Jack is risking a hell of a lot with this one. And I’m on the edge of my seat, biting me nails with every second.

It’s friggin’ fantastic to have Bernard back, and the fact that the terrorist act wasn’t exactly an act makes it even better. Not to mention … is Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) nailin’ it so far, or what? 😛

“I saw your hearing on C-SPAN, what they said was terrible! You looked good, though.” Priceless.

Discuss: What do you like/dislike about the season so far?
